Project Celebration is a parent & community-driven group that raises money to host a drug and alcohol-free, safe alternative after-Prom lock-in. Project Celebration also helps raise money for the senior breakfast, promenade festivities, and the senior gift to the school. Project Celebration is not the Prom Committee (which is student-driven). Project Celebration is independent of the school and is not funded at all by Aledo ISD.
We've heard a few parents discussing that their child may not want to attend the after prom party that Project Celebration plans, to provide a safe evening for our kids. My reply would be, "Why not?" As a parent, I want to be sure my child is safe on this very dangerous night. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) statistics, approximately 1,000 children under the age of 21 will die on prom night. While you may not worry about your child abusing drugs or alcohol, unfortunately we must worry about our kids being on the roads while other kids are potentially drinking and driving on prom night. I would hate to have a tragedy in our community.
Additionally, all seniors will want to participate in Senior Sunrise and Senior Breakfast. Without parental support of Project Celebration, these two events will not having funding or volunteers to make it happen.
